Some Unique Ideas for Baby Shower Themes

Baby Shower Themes and Ideas – Planning a baby shower can be a great deal of fun, but it can be quite hard to come up with a theme that no one has thought of before. It is, however, possible to make a baby shower truly your own by choosing a unique, fun and interesting theme.

It is, of course, very important, to match the theme of the baby shower to the taste of the mom to be, and to consider the ages of the guests that have been invited as well. While it may not be possible to please everyone, it is important to keep everyone’s interests in mind when planning the event.

Some of the most innovative themes I have seen at baby showers include:

A country tea party – Why not plan a tea party themed baby shower, complete with tea gift baskets and lots of exotic teas from around the world on tap?

A teddy bear shower – Everyone likes cute and cuddly teddy bears. A teddy bear theme is sure to be a hit.

A diaper shaped baby shower cake – After all, the mom to be is sure to be seeing plenty of diapers very soon. Why not give her a diaper she can enjoy in the form of a delicious cake?

A stork shower theme – Decorating the baby shower with storks is a great way to set a great mood and help everyone have a good time.

A gift basket theme – Gift baskets are always a great hit at any shower, and using gift baskets based on the theme of the party can make any baby shower a memorable event.

A nursery rhyme themed baby shower – The great thing about a nursery rhyme baby shower theme is that it can carry over into the decorations, the games and even the food.

A Winnie the Pooh baby shower – It seems that everyone loves Winnie the Pooh, so a Winnie the Pooh baby shower is sure to be a hit with all the guests.

A baby boy shower theme – These days more and more moms to be know ahead of time whether the new addition is a he or a she. Why not take advantage of this knowledge to decorate the room in various shades of blue?

A baby girl shower theme – Or if the new addition is a daughter to be, a rainbow of pink colors can make the shower both beautiful and memorable.

A Noah’s ark baby shower – Young and old alike love the legend of Noah’s ark, and this type of shower provides many opportunities for innovative decorating, food and games.

A baby book shower theme – It is never too early to give a child a love of reading, and a shower centered around favorite children’s books can be a great way to get the new baby off to a flying start.

A sports themed baby shower – If the mom to be has a favorite team or a favorite sport, it may be a great idea to incorporate that love of sports into the baby shower decorations.

A Tigger baby shower – This cuddly tiger is nearly as beloved as his friend Winnie the Pooh. A Tigger themed celebration provides endless opportunities for decorating the shower.

A Snoopy baby shower – Decorating the room with everyone’s favorite Beagle will set a fun and friendly mood for the celebration.

A jungle baby shower theme – Jungle themes are all the rage for baby’s rooms these days, so why not incorporate this great theme into your celebration?

A cowboy baby shower – A cowboy themed baby shower can be a wonderful event, especially if the mom to be is a cowgirl herself.

A princess baby shower – Why not welcome mom’s new princess with a suitably adorned baby shower?

An angel themed baby shower – An angel themed baby shower gives near meaning to the term “mommy’s little angel”.

Any ideas?

Wow what is up with all the thumbs down..Well I found a website that has some really cute themes. It is http://www.babyshowerstuff.com .Most of their themes are really cute & reasonable prices too..Also if you have a party city store in your area, they have a few cute things too.My sister had her 1st baby last year & she did a spongebob theme shower. She likes spongebob & was doing the nursery in that too so..It was really cute..Have fun planning..

First off….I have a page on my website that has some unique/sentimental activities for the shower. These are activities that HAVE NOT been done a gazillion times before.

Now….on to the THEMES!!

Bathtime Showers and Sleepytime Hours
(Moons and stars and rubber ducks would predominate. This themed shower would feature a registry with these items::::bath products, hooded towels, pajamas, nightlights, storybooks, relaxing cds, blankets, crib sheets….etc.)
Activities: Onesie decorating. One-handed crib sheet changing contest (timed)—-if a crib is readily available!!

Children's Storybook Shower: Classic Children's storybooks like "good night moon", "runaway bunny", "where the wild things are", "i love you this much", "dr. seuss", "but not the hippopotamus", "winnie the pooh", etc. You could ask each guest to bring a copy of THEIR favorite storybook to the shower to start off baby's library. The decorations could be prints from the books, themselves….if you look around you could probably find invites that have these types of themes to them!!

Family Tree: If it is a predominately family-oriented shower….focus on the family tree of the new baby!! Have a family tree made for the new baby and this could be a focal point of the decorations. What a great piece to hang in the nursery, too!! Decorations could be this family tree, and napkins/plates with words like "family", "love", "cherish", etc.

Poker-themed baby shower (a totally different idea that might work really well for the daddy-to-be and his cronies….could occur the same day as mommy's shower!!). Buy in for this poker tourney would be a package of diapers. Winner gets a really great gift certificate to some manly place like Home Depot or Best Buy!!! Decorations could be playing cards with daddy being the "King", mommy being the "Queen" and the new baby being the "Jack"????

show more things from your store i would love to buy things.

So you should go with a safari theme…..giraffes, zebras, lions, hippos, etc. Make it as girly as you want….with flowers wrapped in animal-print ribbon. THE ANIMAL PRINT items is what will make this unique and distinctive!!

Have a diaper cake made as a centerpiece. I can picture a cake with zebra ribbon and RED roses on the top. A onesie that says "Wild Thing"!!

Another great theme would be "Sleepytime Hours". You could do moons and stars and feature GREAT storybooks. Ask each guest to bring their favorite storybook from THEIR childhood to start baby's collection. Decorate with images from GOODNIGHT MOON, WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE, RUNAWAY BUNNY, DR. SEUSS, ETC. Once again….get a diaper cake centerpiece. THIS one would be in the storybook theme….with a plush Cat In The Hat Topper and a Onesie that says: "And Now", cried Max, "Let the wild rumpus begin!" (From Where the Wild Things Are).

That's my ten cents…..

I am including links to my diaper cake website as well as to my page off that site that has UNIQUE and SENTIMENTAL activities at the shower. Maybe they can help you out!!

Have fun planning….but don't think yourself into stress. The point of the shower is to celebrate baby….and as long as the mamas show up most of the work will already be done!!

For the navy thing, I would just do the decorations in those colors (dark blue and white? i think..) and maybe use cloth diapers to make Navy hats to the guests or maybe just the guest of honor….obviously the cake would be easy to get made into any theme….Navy themed invites, such as ones that would look like the navy sent them…ect

One idea I did for my shower that I liked was a Time Capsule for when the baby is 18. A notice was placed into the invites for each guest to bring one small item (photo, atricle, ect, anything time related to when he was born, ect) to place into a decoration box. Decorating the box could also be a shower activity. I have mine tucked away in my closet and it includes:
Small photo book with pictures from the shower
*an invite to the shower/a favor
*a 2005 coin
*a newpaper article about the Moon doing something rare…
*a sunday ad for target (where I was resistered)
*a redsox worldseris shirt and magent from them winning that year
*a hand size bible addressed to the baby
*an old picture of me and some relatives that attended the shower
*some other small items

it was interesting…..good luck!

haha I bet a lot of people from youtube visit you at work :) I would too, if I could ;)

For a little boy a teddy bear theme would be really cute. But honestly I think the cutest would be a circus theme. You could also do an Alice in Wonderland Mad-Hatter Tea Party theme done because it really could work for either sex depending on how you decorate, etc. My friend did it for her sister who had a boy and while I didn't attend, I saw pictures and it looked really cute. They all wore the big hats and everything was different shades of blue.

Hope this helps! Congrats!

please can you do another tour of your shop, and show clothes please, and also tell the price, if you wouldnt mind.
Also what is the website??
thanks Lorraine, i enjoy watching your videos.. :)
can you do a tour of your room aswell , it looks super cool :) xx

How about an "Ode to Baby". Everyone writes a poem or lymerick to read to the mom to be and the best one (either by vote or new mom) gets a prize. This could go well with a book shower where all gifts include a book and have a book theme.

You could do a scrapbook shower if the mom is into that. Each person brings (or you could make at the shower – supply the materials so that everything has the same theme and goes in a matching album) a scrapbook page ready for pictures to be added and you supply a scrapbook to put them in.

You could do a laundry/white shower. The decorations would be clothes lines and everyone bring detergent, hamper, hangers and whites (sheets, bedding, towels, etc.).

Go to ivillage.com for more ideas.

Good luck!

Low country boil or pot luck. That way instead of tea and finger food you get good homestyle cookin' and everyone gets to bring their favorite dish. (So much better than tuna salad and celery sticks)
You can do like a formal party and have everyone dress up. Then have A LOT of games for everyone, maybe even a champagne toast (sprite for the pregnant lady and young ones)
